Jethro Tull took their name from a 19th century English agriculturalist. The band, led by Ian Anderson, formed in 1967.

ELP came together with Keith Emerson from the British band The Nice, Greg Lake had been with King Crimson and Carl Palmer played drums for Atomic Rooster and the Crazy World of Arthur Brown.
