1979 – At a benefit concert at the United Nations in New York City, several artists donate the day’s performed version of a song to UNICEF. Artists at “A Gift of Song” include Rod Stewart, Rita Coolidge, Kris Kristofferson and Linda Ronstadt. They eventually raise over a half million dollars.

1992 – Sting makes a guest appearance on the Fox animated TV comedy series “The Simpsons,” in the episode “Radio Bart.”

1997 – David Bowie celebrates his 50th birthday with a benefit concert at Madison Square Garden, just one day after his actual birth date.
