1962 – The Rolling Stones, featuring Mick Jagger, Keith Richard, and Brian Jones, make their performing debut at the Marquee Club in London.
1969 – The Beatles’ “The Ballad of John and Yoko” hits #8 on the singles chart. The song is banned on many radio stations because of the lyrics, “Christ, you know it ain’t easy …”
1969 – Blind Faith make their U.S. debut at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Singer/keyboardist Steve Winwood of Traffic, lead guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker of Cream, and bassist/violinist Ric Grech of Family barely survive as a group until the end of their first tour. But their one and only album becomes a classic, including the song “Can’t Find My Way Home.”
1983 – Traffic’s sax player Chris Wood dies at age 39.
